THE NIGHT I GOT SHANGHAI’D

As you know – when I was in China, I traveled with G Adventures. It’s like an organized backpacker tour you sign up for, together with other backpackers from all around the world – 18 to 30 years old. I made friends for life! But that’s another story. In China I traveled a program named Roam China. That was an itinerary from Beijing to Hong Kong, and our second stop were Shanghai!

The clearest memory I have from Shanghai is TALL buildings, and (sadly enough) being wasted….. I totally got Shanghaied. We went out to this posh club where we paid like 100 yuan for the entrance, and then you could drink unlimited amounts of vodka/orange juice all night, with a couple of tequila shots as well. DANG-ER-OUS! But so much fun!

Well, before I totally screwed my body up that night, we got to look around for a bit. The weather was bad, so the skyline of Shanghai were shit – as you can see in the first picture. We spent the day shopping instead, and in the evening we went out to a bar called Cloud 9 – in the 87th floor of a skyscraper. The view would’ve been CRAZY, I’m sure, if it wasn’t for the – yeah exactly, clouds…. The dessert we ate there, though, was killing me. SO GOOD! I felt like I was in heaven – literally and practically spoken.

The next day we went out for breakfast before we bought tickets for the jump on-jump off-bus. We took a seat to City God Temple and Yu Yan Garden, where we spent the whole day. Typical Chinese buildings, shops – everything. Such a nice area! After a couple of hours there, we jumped on the bus again and went to the French Collection. A VERY posh area with expensive stores and restaurants. We were just wandering around, until we grabbed some dinner at Pasta Inn and eventually got back to the hotel to get ready for the big night out. The night I got Shanghaied……

I was dancing on tables. I was dancing on stage. I was talking to random guys because Benji (one of my travel buddies) told me to. And on my way to the hotel bed, I managed to make a phone call. A major call. To Norway. From CHINA to NORWAY! That’s like… $$$$$$! I was talking and talking, 26 NOK pr minute and I was talking for more than an hour….. Where’s my medal?

The day after is happily deleted from my memory. I was writing a world record in hangover, and I did it on a noisy, moving night train to our next destination. That’s the worst day of my 23 years long life, I tell ya’.

Next stop: Xi’an!
