MEMORY BANK

ph_priv (C) 1. Bo Kaap, Cape Town, South Africa 2. Camel in the middle of the desert in Pushkar, India 3. Pushkar, India 4. Great wall of China 5. Pacific Ocean, Guam

I’ve so many pictures from my travel around the world. If my storage was an ocean, only a single drop would be what you’ve seen ’till now. What place, country, experience, what day, WHAT from my journey do you wanna see more of? Contries I’ve been to the last 6 months, if you don’t remember: South Afrixa, India, China, Philippines, Guam, Hawaii, Los Angeles, Trinidad, Suriname, Brasil, Argentina. In India, China and Brasil I’ve been all the way from North to South.

the mainland

ph_priv, south of Florianópolis, Brazil

Had a good time exploring the mainland South of Floripa the island today. So peaceful, so colourful and oh so beautiful! Brazil is full of ‘em places. That makes my heart go blue when I think about leaving it all behind soon… But then again, my homesick soul can barely deal with another month, so I don’t think I have the guts to put the two of them up against eachother. Heart vs soul. That’s a certain receipt for disaster, no matter what outcome it brings. I think I’ll just stick to my plan – enjoy my last month plus plus as a backpacker, and then go home to catch my breath. Then both my heart AND my soul can charge and get ready for my next adventure instead. ‘Cause I know this won’t be my last!

Well, now I have to charge, it’s almost midnight over here…. Good night, superpeople! ILU!

the present

I’m counting my time in places I’ve been, not in months, days or hours. For example, today I called my mum, haven’t talked to her since Trinidad. (That means in the early January.) And when I suddenly try to count in months instead of places, I get dizzy. I have to sit down. I can’t believe it’s only four weeks since I left Suriname, I feel like I’ve been in Brasil forever! Time is weird, especially when you travel. I feel like my past is gone, and my future is even harder to tell. The book I referred you the other day, ‘Aleph’, pointed something about that out for me: PRESENT is the only time we have. PAST and FUTURE is just something we have in our minds. And when you put it that way – it’s true! And let ME make a point out of THAT: stay true to your present. Own it, use it, never let it go. ‘Cause that’s the only time we have. We never know about the future, if it comes – or not. We know about our past, but that’s just time that has already passed. Time we should have used for the fullest, time we might have wasted. Present is what it is – a present worth gold. And I’ll wrap my head, heart and soul around it to make it count, and later become a memorable past.

Tell me about your present, what are you up to right now?
My present is Brasilian, and that’s like… midnight. So my ‘right now’ might me boring, but valuable: full of Zzz.

the beautiful home and heart of a chamorro

ph_priv, Dededo, Guam. Suddenly the brave soldier he told me so much about got a face!

Pictures from our night at Juan’s place, the day before yesterday. Met Juan’s lovley wife, and she had cook this delicious meal for us! Followed by a homemade cake with bananas from Juan’s own tree. How cool?! And before dinner, Juan taught me how to do a coconut! I did great! Oh, I loved that night. So many good stories (again), so much laughter, all that food, their beautiful chamorro home, oh such a warm place to be. Inside out. Their hearts are bigger than this Island – that’s for sure. In the beginning I was afraid that Guam for 14 days would be way too long, but after meeting Juan? I’ll be sad to leave….

the yangtzee river

ph_priv

Some pictures from the boat cruise we did down the Yantzee River a few days ago, with the Three Gorges and everything. You can find one of the river-scenes on the 10 yuan-money, it was so cool when we held it up to compare! I’ve been in the reality’s 10 yuan!

Beside looking at the majestic nature of China while we were sailing down the river, we played Mahjong (a chinese game), ate, just relaxed. And did some Chinese “kara ok” (haha, loved the spelling-mistake!), that was… really interesting! I loved the boat cruise, but honestly…. The Norwegian fjords are more breathtaking beautiful than China’s. Sry.

flashbacks from old Beijing

ph_priv, the Hutongs in Old Beijing

Just some pictures I took while we were staying in Beijing. The things I liked the most about that city was the walk on the great wall of China, and the Hutongs – as you can see in the pictures. Houhai was such a beautiful place, with a traditional old Chinese look. Small shops, rikshaws, the sun and the wintercold just framed it all so perfectly! I felt like I was walking in a living postcard, or in a movie, or in anything else that isn’t for real. I’m living in a fairytale of mine, supers. I really do.

Out of all the places I’ve been so far, South Africa, India and China – where would you like to go? And why?

Ps. Forhåndsskrevet innlegg/Prewritten post, I’m on the run again!

soup of the day

ph_priv, China

So long!

Ps. I MISS YOU!

Just some words about the Chinese food. Google translate it, I’m going to bed now – still feel like shit with the cold. Tomorrow we’re gonna learn about the Terracotta Warriors, I DON’T wanna miss that! So – good night! “Get well, Marie” Tyty.
